Poet, Artist, Musician and Businesswoman
Janna Willoughby-Lohr has been writing poetry since she was 5, and performing since age 12. She graduated from Warren Wilson College in 2004 with a BA in Integrative Studies: Entrepreneurial Creative Business Arts. Since graduation, she has been performing poetry and music steadily as her alter-ego, MC Vendetta, and as her singer/songwriter self, Janna-Ruth.
She was a Grand Slam finalist in 2005-2008 for the Nickel City Poetry Slam, and a member of the 2006 Nickel City Slam team at the National Poetry Slam. She has also been an editor and layout artist for Earth’s Daughters literary magazine, the longest running women’s publication in the country, since 2007.
Since 2008 she has been performing with her band, BloodThirsty Vegans, a lively mix of energetic hiphop, rock, funk, ska and blues, topped off with socially-conscious, positive lyrics. They have one album, Let the Feast Begin, and are working on the second.
An integral part of The Buffalo Infringement Festival since its inception in 2005, Janna has steadily taken on more of a leadership role and is currently the Literary Czarina, Online Funding GuRu, and General Cat Herder for BIF ’13. She has performed countless poetry, music, theater, visual art and dance events over the years.
Beginning in early 2012, she began studying ATS Bellydance and has been performing with Leslie Fineberg’s dance troupe, Euphraxia since July 2012.
Janna is the sole owner and artist behind Papercraft Miracles, where she makes handmade books, paper, cards and other papercrafts and gifts, as well as providing graphic design and consulting work. She specializes in custom hardbound books but can make anything out of paper.
She currently works as a photo editor for www.bodycandy.com (a local jewelry company). She is also a teaching artist through Just Buffalo Literary Center and the National Federation of Just Communities, teaching and performing poetry and art to middle-school students.
