The Black 2 Love gala – an Excel Queen-City Collective event, promises an array of musical, poetic and artistic talent under the eclectic roof of the Hotel at the Lafayette in downtown Buffalo, NY. The evenings events will feature a sit down three course meal, a range of very different vendors and an awards portion honoring various individuals for their contributions.
Excel Queen-City Collective started with a vision that transformed into a lifestyle. In 2012, they founded Crowd of Excellence (COE) which specializes in screen printing, photography, video production, digital design and custom canvas work. While one of their biggest challenges has been finding a space which allows for their current needs and future growth, they have not let that keep them from moving forward with their purpose.
The purpose of this event is to celebrate Black History Month together with people across the region spreading and sharing love. So much has happened not only across this country, but throughout the world that has left people mourning, hurt, confused and afraid. This is their way of spreading peace, love, and awareness that supportive, positive people do exist.
One of the unique perks about EXCEL is that future members leasing space have the option of becoming what they call “Artisans” in their area of expertise. The Artisan’s lease is discounted upon agreement to host a workshop series once a session, (total 4 sessions a year). The general public can receive a membership to their collective, giving them access to all available workshops, seminars, events, benefits, etc. The purpose of each session of workshops is to collectively design and create a custom gift to donate to various people, neighborhoods, and organizations across the region. EXCEL calls this their “GiveBack” Program.
EXCEL intends to not only help new businesses succeed, but to also educate individuals throughout the city about jobs and careers that are often unknown and unseen.
“We want to inspire those who may have given up, lost interest, or focus on their path to keep going. We hope to give our community options and the opportunity to learn and explore new avenues. We believe that together, we can all help lift one another to the level we desire to reach, give to receive.”
